InterVene’s Safety Lancet has been developed with the patient in mind. At penetration depths of greater than 2.2mm, lancets can often strike deep into nerve bundles, resulting in pain. This can be a real issue where large blood samples are required. Rather than increasing the depth of penetration in order to achieve higher blood flow, InterVene’s Safety Lancets use different gauge sizes, allowing us to achieve samples of between 20µl and 175µl blood whilst maintaining a uniform depth of just 2.2mm, thereby avoiding large nerve bundles and keeping the pain to a minimum.
The device has been designed so that it is intuitive in its operation. The user instinctively removes the cap and the actuator is presented in such a way that depressing it to activate the device appears obvious. In order to communicate to the user that the lancet has been deployed, the coloured, circular indicator disappears. Although the lancet has already been made safe at this stage, by turning the cap through 180º and replacing it, the device neatly protects the user from coming into contact with contaminated residue.
