In the current economic climate using a new cuff for each BP reading is simply not viable. However, assigning a cuff to a patient on admission and continuing to use the cuff on the same patient throughout their stay makes absolute economic sense. Aside from the need to comply with healthcare legislation, from a financial perspective, with the cost of treating each case of Clostridium difficile or MRSA estimated to be in the region of £25,000, the implementation of InterVene's Single Patient BP Cuff range can have a significant impact on infection rates and healthcare budgets.
InterVene’s challenge was to produce a high quality cuff that would be comfortable for patients and, if necessary, be strong enough to follow them through their stay in hospital. In order to help organisations make the transition from reusable cuffs it has been critical to pitch the cuff at a price that would make it attractive for organisations to make the switch.
InterVene’s blood pressure cuffs have been manufactured using a soft, non-woven polypropylene. Our cuffs are latex-free and are available in a full rage of sizes for limbs measuring between 3cms and 54cms in circumference.

By implementing a policy which outlaws the use of a BP cuff on more than one patient healthcare providers are taking huge strides towards eradicating contact cross-infections from BP cuffs.
To further endorse the concept of single patient use, each cuff in the adult range bears an ID box to enable clinicians to write the patient's name on the cuff. Alternatively, pre-printed patient ID labels can be used.
Cleaning
InterVene’s single-patient cuffs are intended for same patient use only and should therefore be discarded after use on one patient. Should the cuff require cleaning then it can be sponged with warm, soapy water. It is important to bear in mind that this cleaning is cosmetic in nature and is in no way intended to result in disinfection of the cuff. If the cuff becomes excessively dirty then it should be replaced.
The white colour of the cuff was chosen to better highlight any contamination or dirt.
Guarantee and Testing
We guarantee each of our single-patient cuffs against defective manufacture for up to 100 inflations. However the cuff has been designed to withstand the type of use associated with reusable cuffs and we would expect them to last for well over 200 inflations. For example, at say £3 per cuff that is just 1½p per inflation – an exceptional price : performance ratio!
During our in-house quality control testing process, cuffs are inflated to over 500 mmHg, which is well above the pressure experienced in normal use. Cuffs are also batch-tested for 200 inflations and samples are destruction tested daily.
Neonatal Disposable BP Cuff Range
Each of InterVene's neonatal BP Cuffs bears the image of a friendly animal character. The cuff material is soft and has been manufactured with rounded corners to minimise discomfort. All cuffs are supplied with a luer slip conncetor and are available in either single or dual hose.
